Habitat starting ‘Blitz Build’ today

Habitat for Humanity of Findlay-Hancock County today will begin a “Blitz Build” effort to build a home in one month. A public “raise the wall” ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. today at 1907 Brookside Drive, Findlay. It will be the local Habitat affiliate’s 41st Habitat home in Hancock County, and the first built in partnership with the Hancock County Home Builders Association. Burglars targeting vacant Binghamton homes with For Sale signs

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Police Department is asking residents to keep a lookout for people breaking into vacant homes that are for sale. Binghamton Police has responded to five homes that have been broken into recently on Vestal, Sherwood, and Pennsylvania Avenues along with Mill Street. Inspections now required for new homes in unincorporated Jackson County

Anyone in unincorporated areas of Jackson County building a new home now needs to have inspections done. County Building Commissioner Conner Barnette said he worked with Jackson County Commissioner Bob Gillaspy and some local contractors to draft a building ordinance and get it approved. The ordinance, which was drafted from the Indiana Code, went into effect Friday. Fireworks sellers may skip Cedar Rapids due to zoning restrictions

MARION, Iowa (KCRG TV9)- Legal fireworks sales returned to Iowa for the first time in decades last summer. But after a rash of complaints, cities like Cedar Rapids and Iowa City imposed severe limits on sales locations and banned the use of consumer fireworks inside city limits. In Cedar Rapids vendors licensed by the state can only sell in areas zoned for industrial uses. The Iowa Fire Marshal’s office has predicted about 800 applications this year to sell fireworks.
